Wensley Fold tree mosaics
This was another one day project in Wensley Fold Primary school.
I was given very short notice , and had no time to order frost resist tiles from Italy, and was beginning to question how ethical it is to transport perfectly good tiles from Italy and then smash them up, when there are other materials that could be used.
I did use some remmanants of tile from other projects, but tried to source other types of stone, slate and marble to use instead.
The children created the mosaic panels, and I grouted the work and sanded back plywood to create the woodgrain effect on the frame.
The panels are on either side of the entrance to the main reception at the school

festival gardens
These are gardens that I and my partner, and friends/ other arts workers have created at short festivals during the summer months.
Each garden has a different feel to it and is a response to the festival, the site, which area of the festival we are in ( chill out, kids etc..) and the materials available.
Some of the gardens have been more interactive than others.
The gardens are also usually lit at night which brings another level of enchantment.

Livesey Parish Community Hall castings/ mosaics
These are some mosaic castings I did with a perent and toddler group, based on gardens and what might be found in them. By using the kids hands and footprints, mosaic, and stones and marbles pressed into moulding sand we created cast concrete stepping stones for the local community hall garden.

The Great Fire of London- Whitefield Primary school, Nelson
Wow- this was a great project. A combination of looking at the Great Fire of London, and looking at changes ( temporary and permanent)in materials.
We worked with clay to make small houses, and then with paper, willow, pea sticks and straww to make small lantern houses and a huge castle, a church, and london Bridge itself.
At a grand finale event, we fist lit the lanterns internally with candles, but then fire broke out on pudding lane, and with the aid of paraffin soaked sawdust, soon spread to all the buildings on the hill.
An amazing and spectacular way to explore the subject and to avoid storing lanterns for a long time!!
The children returned the next day to look at the state change in the wood, paper, metal, glass, clay, sand and soil.
